Did you know that Schupan Aluminum stocks and sells thousands of "custom" aluminum extruded shapes? These parts are proprietary and produced to customer specifications. They are designed to meet your needs. Typical industries include office furniture, marine, medical, military, and construction to name a few.
Is a custom extrusion right for your application? Here are a few things to consider:
Total pounds:
Most custom extrusions require a minimum order of 500 - 1000 Lbs.
Lighter shapes are generally available at a slightly higher cost per pound.
Making Chips:
Are you making a lot of chips? Many times customers order 3" x 6" rectangular bar but could have gotten away with 2-5/8" x 5-5/8" (That's a savings of almost 4 pounds per foot). Schupan Aluminum can have a die made for a "near net shape", whether that means a custom size rectangular bar, or an asymmetrical polygon with voids running the length of the extrusion.
New markets:
Custom extrusions can open the door to new opportunities if the desired shape or size is not currently available.
Schupan Aluminum partners with a plethora of mills that are capable of producing large heavy shapes to small thin wall multi-void hollows. In addition to these services, stocking, cutting, and just-in-time delivery is available upon request. We select a mill based on your needs and their capabilities. Whether the item is a tight tolerance architectural shape, non-standard structural shapes, or a surface critical decorative part, we have the right source!
As you can see, there are several different factors to consider when looking at a custom extrusion. The above list includes very general guidelines that will help steer you in the right direction.
