Schupan Recycling is a processor and marketer of Used Beverage Containers (UBCs) including aluminum cans, plastic bottles (PET), and glass bottles. We operate multiple processing facilities that recycle billions of cans and bottles for soft drink wholesalers and beer wholesalers throughout the State of Michigan. Schupan is the largest independent purchaser, processor and marketer of UBCs in the nation.

Schupan Recycling began in 1985, by developing a program custom fit to the beverage wholesalers of Michigan, creating a comprehensive on-site densification program, which has since transformed the industry of beverage container recycling.

 

In 1990, we developed the system currently used for processing our distributor's bags of aluminum and PET. In an effort toward continuous improvement, the process was further reinvented in 1998, when a unique organization called UBCR, LLC, a joint venture between Schupan and Sons, Inc. and TOMRA of North America, was established. UBCR operates a single source solution for the collection, transportation and processing of aluminum cans, PET and glass beverage containers from Michigan’s largest retailers.

 

In 2005, Schupan and Sons inc. and TOMRA of North America continued the partnership by creating Synergistics, LLC, which provides logistics services for small and medium sized customers looking to maximize their transportation, routing and material handling operations.

 

In 2006, the Special Events Recycling partnership was created to advance the opportunity for the public to recycle their non-deposit beverage containers at public events, such as festivals, concerts, fairs and sporting events. Our custom-designedevents recycling trailer  has been used at events throughout Michigan and has saved money for event promoters, as well as made recycling more available.
